Must See: Montana Fall Road Trip - 2022

Wild Goose Overlook - St. Mary's Lake - East Side Going to the Sun Road - Glacier National Park Fall is like the blissful sunset of a beautiful day. The colors of the year blazing into brilliant reds and oranges. The weather holding out the last vestiges of warmth. And all the world seems to be curling up over a cozy mug of hot chocolate in the waning light. Just before the cold night of winter settles in. I love fall. And everything that it brings with it. Especially, I love the mountains in fall. How they can go from striking to moody in a matter of moments. And, (even) most especially, I love Glacier National Park in the fall. It is spectacle for the senses. Bright colors. Cool breezes. Altitudes and reflections. Hiking. Grazing moose. Scampering bears.  Head out highway 2 toward West Glacier and you are astounded by the sheer mountainous walls marking the entrance to the park. Thoughts for Thursday: Taxi Stand

Businessmen walk past a taxi queue - Union Station, Washington, DC

Today has been a slow day - like waiting in line at a taxi stand. Not much happens. Feet shuffle. Luggage wheels tick over slowly. Maybe the guy just ahead has a certain summer induced scent. Or the two gentlemen carrying suits talk about the mornings meeting. Feet shuffle. Wheels click. The motion of passersby hint at activity. They rush and hustle in waves, breaking over the tail of the line. They dart to and fro, into and out of doors. Music spills out of earbuds and divergent conversations pass like a stiff breeze. Feet shuffle. Wheels slide. The air rustles under pigeons' wings. Though living lives as grey as their feathers, they go about it. Feet slide. Wheels tick. A flag jerks in gusts. The crisp ring and snap of its tether clear. Then the wind dies. The clothe drapes around the pole. But only for a second as its vigilant assailant returns. Feet shuffle. A door closes. And a pigeon sits motionless. Each, like the flag, has done its work, and for the moment has come to rest. Like standing in a taxi queue, today I join them, if only for the moment. For this brief instance, I have no work. Work has brought me to this place and work will soon take me away. But, here and now, I will rest. I will wait. And I will take joy in my Lord who leads me to green pastures.* For soon, I will be the one whisked into motion by an orange cab. Feet shuffle. Wheels click.
