Catching Some Air - Aviation Photography

It's not often that I have extra time these days, but every once in a while a few minutes pop up. Now, pair that with the right location and photographic fun ensues. Take these for example. I had some time to burn on a recent trip to Alaska waiting for a late-night return flight out of Anchorage where there is a publicly accessible area just past the end of the runway - similar to Gravely Point at DCA. The Capitol at Night: Testing the iPhone's Panoramic Function

The US Capitol building during the blue hour.
The design people at Apple brought out a panoramic function with the upgrade to iOS 6. I know the functionality has been out for a while now, but I am just now getting the opportunity to test it out.

So, here it is - testing the iPhone's panoramic function. Considering the functionality, it does a really good job for simple panoramic pictures. You will notice quite a bit of noise when shooting evening shots like this one. But, if you use it right, it can add a beautiful, old-school grain to your shots.

The iPhone uses a video to capture the image, stitching together frames as you move the iPhone across the capture zone. Even looking closely, it is difficult to tell that any stitching has been done.

The usability is good. Just follow the direction arrow and keep the iPhone steady. The panoramic program will do the rest.

Have a great iPhone panoramic? I would love to see it. Put a link in the comments below.

Check back for more tests and pictures with the iPhone panoramic function.
