Catching Some Air - Aviation Photography

It's not often that I have extra time these days, but every once in a while a few minutes pop up. Now, pair that with the right location and photographic fun ensues. Take these for example. I had some time to burn on a recent trip to Alaska waiting for a late-night return flight out of Anchorage where there is a publicly accessible area just past the end of the runway - similar to Gravely Point at DCA. Road Trip Landscapes: Mountain West & National Parks No. 1

Badlands National Park

We over here at BKP needed some air. So we took a road trip. A 2,500 mile road trip! Through five national parks and through some absolutely incredible landscapes. We found prairie dogs and an elk with a rack the size of a nice Christmas tree. Catch the whole trip here on the blog.

Badlands National Park - cut into the prairies of South Dakota, this place is wild. Your driving across the flat prairie that looks like it goes on for miles and miles. Suddenly it disappears. If you didn't know better you'd go right over a cliff - dropping a hundred feet.

We had to check it out. It was hot and dry. and we had little water. But hike we did. Over and around beautiful limestone spires with generations of striations etching history into the rock.

On a day of over 95 degrees, it was sweltering. Then the clouds rolled in. And it became merely intolerable.

Still, some of the most incredible landscapes around. Well worth it.
